| Steven M. Barsky has served as an expert witness or as a diving accident investigator in numerous legal cases. This work has taken him to dive locations across the United States, from Wisconsin to Hawaii, as well as abroad to Puerto Rico, Cozumel, and the Dominican Republic. As an expert witness, Steve has testified in cases involving both sport and commercial diving accidents. He has re-created accidents and directed the testing of diving equipment. Steve has testified in state courts as well as federal admiralty court. Steve maintains topside film and digital photo systems as well as underwater video for documentation. As a dive accident investigator, Steve has conducted the background investigations in both cold and warm water diving situations. He has investigated or served as an expert in more than 100 cases involving decompression sickness, physical injury, and fatalities. The attorneys with whom he works consistently rate his reports and advice as among the best they receive. Steve turns down more legal cases as an expert than he accepts, at a ratio of almost two to one. He is well respected in the industry for his honesty and careful analysis of the issues. He has created materials and a course to help train U.S. Coast Guard commercial diving inspectors in accident investigation techniques. In 2003 Steve collaborated with Dr. Tom Neuman, M.D. to produce the book, Investigating Recreational and Commercial Diving Accidents. The book may be purchased from Hammerhead Press. References for this work are available upon request. |
